DC Fontana Album Launch Party at The Tunnels Bristol August 7th Print E-mail

dcfontana.jpgThere's a multi-instrumental musical juggernaut heading to The Tunnels Bristol called DC Fontana.  They're a mod/beat/soul orchestra and they mean business, people. Well dressed and road hardened they've headlined every major scooter rally in Britain. Recently they've been promoting the words of our Mod fathers throughout Europe, which is practically like missionary work.

They triumphed at the prestigious Purple Weekend Festival in Spain; they headlined the Paris Rare Groove Day Festival in France; topped the bill at the Athenaeum Cave 60s event in Greece and headlined the Beat The Clock Mod Weekender in Köln, Germany. Not the actions of half hearted souls.

There's a lot to celebrate about this band.

Fronted by beguiling lead singer Karla Milton DC Fontana also feature Scott Riley - former member of Spectrum and Experimental Audio Research, the post-Spacemen 3 projects of Pete Kember (aka Sonic Boom), leading trumpet player Steve Trigg who has worked with Mick Jagger PP Arnold & Steve Winwood and founding member Mark Mortimer on bass.

With authentic Hammond organ, thumping bass lines and snake-like guitar work, not to mention a brass section so tight you could laminate the dance floor with it we're slightly concerned the floor may implode due to excessive boogie-ing.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, DC Fontana release their critically acclaimed debut album “SIX AGAINST EIGHT” on the sixth day of the eighth month and invite you to celebrate the album launch with them here at The Tunnels Bristol on August 7th

Produced by Donald Ross Skinner (Julian Cope, Prolapse, Salad, Cud etc) & mastered by Smiths/U2/Las & Talking Heads producer Mark Wallis, the album is an eclectic kitchen-sink drama of serious note.

“SIX AGAINST EIGHT”was recorded on the banks of the River Mersey after legendary Echo & The Bunnymen guitarist Will Sergeant invited the group to record at Parr Street Studios. Collaborations with members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & others make it a massively ambitious debut.

The result is a glorious pot pourri of art & soul: morsels of soulful grooves entwine with blissed-out psychedelic jazz & other-worldly weirdness, all glazed with a catchy pop sensibility.

To promote the album the group shot its own short film in Portmeirion, Wales (the location for the cult 60s TV show "The Prisoner").

Doors open at 7.30 and tickets are priced at £5.00 adv £7.00 door.
Tickets are available from www.bristolticketshop.co.uk
