Monday the 8th of Augusts music includes James Summerfield, Michael Patrick William Bennett, and Ash Mandrake. Doors open at 8pm, £2 after 9pm, free with flier or £1 w/o before 9pm.
In poll position tonight is Ash Mandrake. Too often the term experimental is used to cover other words such as boring, unlistenable or self-indulgence. None of these apply to Ash. He still knows a good tune, is genuinely interesting and has a double neck 16-string guitar. What more could you want? Well how about touches of Jethro Tull mixed with African-folk?
Also on the starting grid is one Michael Patrick William Bennett, know to his friends as and adoring public as erm Mr Bennett. Son of Toronto with a way for words and a new release called "Miles Away" which he won't be, he'll be right here. Widely traveled though he's arriving having previously opened for The Fall and Jonathan Richman and having been a litter picker on Brighton beach. He believes there is no such thing as a famous plumber – hah! He's obviously never heard of erm, you know, wotsisname, bloke with the 'tache, played by Baron Sacha Cohen in the film of his biography …
Roaring out of the pits is James Summerfield, giving us his gothic songs of misery and murder, quality Americana. Veteran of Peel sessions with his former band Buick 6 he is about to release his third solo album, Count To Ten and Start Again. He oozes quality.
Doors open at 8pm, £2 after 9pm, free with flier or £1 w/o before 9pm.
