All that jazz
Access to Music is expanding its repertoire with a new course for jazz musicians starting in September.
The Hengrove-based college is celebrating its 10th anniversary providing popular music courses to the South West’s budding artistes and the new programme will further develop the performance-based curriculum by focussing specifically on all genres of Jazz.
The full time course leads to a recognised and industry-relevant
qualification and students will need to play at grade 6 or equivalent to join up.
Centre manager John Douglass says, “Bristol has a strong and varied
Jazz tradition and we hope this course will continue its development in
the City. Many of our local Jazz musicians are now top international
session players who learnt their chops from playing locally and still
return to jam in the pubs and clubs.”
During the year of study,
students will be able to develop improvisation skills in live
ensembles, compose and arrange songs and tunes, record songs and
perform them live in professional venues and learn how to promote their
music and get it to the people that matter.
The full time course leads to a recognised and industry-relevant
qualification (Rockschool/ATM Combined Diploma at Level 3 - A Level
equivalent), although students will be expected to be playing at grade
6 or equivalent to join up.
