atmt switzerland08 17-08-2008 00-49-53.jpgBackbeating Sounds presents: Alejandro Toledo & the Magic Tombolinos (live) In a Gypsy, Klezmer & Balkan Beats Night @ The Attic Bar, Stokes Croft, Bristol Thursday 16 April ‘09 9pm ‘till Late Alejandro Toledo and the Magic Tombolinos are a sextet made up of traveling musicians from different parts of the globe (Argentina, France, Greece, UK, Slovakia, Portugal) who bring together their backgrounds and experiences in a celebration of music with no regional boundaries. The band “burst on to London's thriving Gypsy Balkan music scene […] and arrived with something of a bang” Lecool, UK. In the few months since the band's debut in London, they have become very popular amongst the underground party scene while at the same time performed at leading venues around London, the UK, and overseas causing mayhem and selling out on several occasions. Led by Alejandro Toledo (Fanfare Cioc?rlia student, PhD in Balkan Gypsy Saxophone Performance), this high energy band delivers the most exciting performances Balkan ethnic music has to offer with wild, unruly tunes, potent rhythms and their general uncontrollable energy. Their ever-evolving musical idiom reflects the way they think and live. Their music, among other things, is a conjunction of various influences (Gypsy, African, Classical, Punk, Middle-Eastern and Latin) which they bring from places they have lived, visited, or simply the music they like, and have filtered through their own distinct voice.
