Funk From The Trunk say this:
Just before we and everyone else disappear off for the summer to various festivals and whatnot, we thought we'd treat you all to a couple of stonkingly large FFTT's. Here is the first, bursting with funk!
The Bamboos are probably the best funk band in the world right now. The Australia's masters of raw Funk and super-heavy soul, led by guitarist Lance Ferguson (AKA Lanu), and featuring the vocal delights of Kylie Auldist have found global acclaim with their 4th album '4'. This is the long-awaited next installment in the ongoing evolution of Australia's finest Funk & Soul band.
The Bamboos' live shows have evolved into non-stop mixtape-style throw-downs that draw the links between hip hop, soul, funk and old-school breaks, and they have performed at large scale events and festivals including Parklife, Days Like This and played the prestigious headline set at The St Kilda Festival to over 5000 people earlier on this year.
The Bamboos greatest attribute is the way they combine the deepest, truest love for the full range of old school funk & soul styles... here's what some people in the know say;
"They've got IT..." - Eddie Bo (New Orleans Funk/Soul legend)
"The undisputed Kings of Deep Funk..." Shook Magazine (Formerly Straight No Chaser U.K)
"The best new Deep Funk band in the world today" Adrian Gibson (The Jazz Café U.K)
"The Bamboos are bad mother-fuckers!" - Syl Johnson (Chicago Soul/Funk Legend)
Alongside
The Bamboos are their label-mates Belleruche. Described as handmade hip hop blues soul, like Sarah Vaughan, Django Reinhardt and Cut Chemist stuck in a lift with Russian beer and a sampler, Belleruche make turntable soul music!
The trio is made up of Kathrin deBoer (vocals), Ricky Fabulous (guitar) and DJ Modest (decks); the band was formed after Ricky and Modest, who played bizarre turntable and guitar sets in London bars, bumped in to Kathryn in the market one day. She did some singing over a cup of tea with the pair and Belleruche was born.
Joining the fun behind the decks and vying for dancefloor supremecy will be the FFTT funkateers; Mr Lingo, Powercut & Ewan Hoozami with special guest DJ Bobby Speed
Providing the usual energy and dancefloor fillers to keep you dancing well into Friday morning; expect to hear anything from straight up funk & beats to soul, boogaloo and hip-hop. Guaranteed to give your dancing feet a treat.
