More About Ujima Radio
Ujima Radio is a not-for-profit radio station, owned and run by local people, mostly volunteers, which enables the community to use the medium of radio to create new opportunities for regeneration, employment, learning, social cohesion and inclusion as well as cultural and creative expression.
‘It’s about time that the community has an expressive medium that is not just entertainment, but a means of highlighting major issues affecting the African and Caribbean communities in Bristol. - Kevin Philemon, Media Project Manager
Ujima Radio will feature local voices and aims to inform, represent, educate, entertain, and celebrate culture, heritage and diversity within Bristol. In particular it welcomes contributions from the African and Caribbean communities living in the St Paul’s and Easton areas of Bristol.
If your community doesn't have a voice, contact us, and we can put you in touch with producers and presenters who will highlight your concerns, opinions and successes. Ujima Radio will broadcast in many languages, feature discussions, phone-ins, interviews, chat, drama, poetry and play music from all over the world. In short, it is a station for you, made with you.
Ujima Radio will broadcast from the CEED Media Centre, St Pauls, who offer affordable courses in Music Technology, Radio Production and Film-making. As part of The CEED Charity, it strives to serve predominantly the local community, which is in need for localised training equivalent to that found in the larger colleges and media centres in Bristol, where Black and Ethnic Minorities are under-represented.
