dave wright and the blue mangoes Dave Wright will be playing at the Prom Music Bar on Wednesday 27th of Feb with his band the Blue Mangoes. Steve Liddle on drum (formerly with 80s cult band the Fisher Z), Pat Slade lead guitar and Steve Pavey on bass. Expect a mix of original songs and covers including some classic old blues numbers (Taj Mahal etc) and songs from the like of Richard Thompson, Nick Lowe and Little Feat.

Portishead Album and Tour

portishead album thirdAs well as releasing their first album in 10 years, Portishead are planning an extensive European and US tour in the coming months. Some ten years after their last formal release (the live album Roseland NYC Live in 1998), our local trip-hop pioneers are releasing their eleven track fourth album, interestingly named Third, on April 14th 2008. It will be released in the UK by Island Records. The band have announced a series of live dates in the UK, Europe and USA. Read on for details.

Andy Sheppard, James Morton and the Lunatics

andy sheppard at PaintworksLegendary jazz saxophonist Andy Sheppard will be playing a one-off fundraising gig in the event space under the Bocabar at Paintworks, Bath Road, Bristol, on February 16th to raise funds for Penny Brohn Cancer Care, a charity in Pill. The gig also features rising alto saxophonist James Morton and his band the Lunatics. Bristol Festival Public Meeting, Thurs 10th Jan
Bristol Festival LogoA second public meeting is being held to debate plans for the Bristol Festival, a new summer event to replace the now-bankrupt Ashton Court community festival. To make your views known, you can attend the meeting on 10 January at The Folk House on Park Street from 1900 GMT onwards. Organisers of the new Festival hope that it will become a South West version of the Edinburgh Fringe. The group behind the festival is made up of volunteers and is open to new members and partnerships. The festival will include various aspects of Bristol culture with events and activities taking place across the city, including art exhibitions, workshops and educational talks as well as club nights and gigs.
