 Ujima Radio is a not-for-profit community radio station, which will start broadcasting on FM and via the internet from the CEED Media Centre, St Pauls early in 2008. They are running a competition to select their logo which will be seen throughout Bristol and the world. Ujima also run a range of music and radio courses to train you up for involvement in the radio station. They are looking for volunteers and people who would give their communities and culture a voice on air.

The Bristol Festival is a brand new event being organised for 2008 by volunteers who feel it's what the community needs, especially in light of the unfortunate but inevitable demise of the hijacked and obstructed Bristol Community Festival at Ashton Court. A Public Consultation Evening at Trinity aims to get your views and support for a community festival celebrating the region's music, performing arts and local culture.  The Cribs (from Wakefield), Jakobinarina (from Iceland) and a special guest from Bristol will play at The Fleece 0n October 4th 2007. The gig will be broadcast on Radio 1's "Lamacq In the City". Steve Lamacq's show will also go out live from the Bristol University student
union in Clifton on Thursday afternoon, and in addition Shaun Keaveny will present his
breakfast show from the Union Bar the following morning. Both shows will be simulcast on the University of Bristol Student Radio.

On the 8th December four bands will be playing at The Croft, Bristol to raise money for the homeless in and around Bristol and Bath. Headlining are Brighton based Los Albertos with their unique SkaPunkFunk sounds. They are being supported by Bristol based The Zen Hussies, Bath based The Mandibles and Caldicot based One String Loose. The cost of entrance will be £8 and it will be on a pre-purchased ticket only and they are available from the Big Issue offices in Stokes Croft, Bristol and the Bridewell Lane office in Bath. All of the profits from the night will go directly towards helping the homeless. |

Portishead have been announced as curators of the All Tomorrow's Parties Nightmare Before Christmas alternative music bash at Butlins, Minehead in December. As well as performing their new material, the Bristol trio will be selecting the festival line up (around 50 bands), and controlling many of the details, right down to the TV programming in the on-site chalets.

Our favorite world music promoters in Bristol, Cactus Jazz seem to have moved up several notches if their next three gigs at Fiddlers are anything to go by. Tinariwen on May 3rd has been sold out for some time, and Lura on 19th May and Culture on 29th June may well go the same way. What kind of Cactus are they on? These are the World Music supergroups who you'd expect to find playing at Colston Hall or larger venues. Indeed, riding on their current wave of popularity Tinariwen may well have sold out at Colston Hall, although both band and ticket holders will surely enjoy the better sound and roots atmosphere of Fiddlers a whole lot more. |

 African hip-hop star Emmanuel Jal will be playing a gig at 7pm on the Big Fun Day in Queen Square, Bristol, a free intercultural event from 1-8pm during the National Refugee Week celebrations. Jal has won worldwide respect for his infectious melodies and unique style of rap. His positive message of peace and reconciliation was born out of his experiences as a child soldier in Sudan.
